HDR Cumbria Lake District Landscape

I have shot a few weddings over the last few weeks, the photos of which will be posted on this blog very soon. In the mean time I thought I'd share an image which I edited for the first time since taking it back in 2008. I can't remember the exact location that this photograph was taken, but it was while on our honeymoon in the beautiful Lake District in May/June 2008.

Little Man Skiddaw, Cumbria

A re-post of an old Landscape shot from November 2005, 'Little Man' or 'Little Man Skiddaw' is a sub-peak of the famous Skiddaw mountain in the Lake District, Cumbria, and overlooks Derwent Water and Keswick.

Scawgill Bridge, Cumbria, Lake District

Another landscape photo from Cumbria and the Lake District.

Taken while on holiday in the Lake District in November 2005. This beautiful and secluded spot is found on Whinlatter Pass (B5292), in the Lorton Fells. As the sun went down it beautifully back-lit the stream, Whit Beck. There was just enough light left to get this shot.


Technical Details:
Olympus OM-40 + Zuiko 28mm f/2.8. Fuji Superia 200 film (35mm). Hand-held. 1/30th sec @ f/11. Selective burn and dodge layers and toning in Photoshop.

Barrow Bay, Derwent Water, Cumbria, Lake District

Recently I posted a couple of Lake District photos. Landscape photography is something I haven't done a huge amount of recently, but I do have a few slightly older ones to share, too. Some were shot digital, some on film.

Today's photo is one taken at a small bay on the Derwent Water. Photos from this particular spot are always nice, but I wanted to bring out the choppiness of the water early in the morning. Back then I had a medium format Bronica SQ-A with the widest available lens, the 40mm. This is the result, after a little digital post-production.

Technical Details:
Bronica SQ-A + PS 40mm f/4, 8 sec @ f/11. Fuji Reala 100 film (120). Tripod. Selective burn and dodge layers and toning in Photoshop.

Lone Tree at Crummock Water, Cumbria, Lake District

Thought I'd share another landscape, shot while on honeymoon last year in the lake district.

Canon EOS 5D + EF 24-105L IS USM lens at 32mm, 1/200 sec @ f/8. ISO 250. Hand-held. Shot in Raw, processed in Capture One 4. Some work in Photoshop CS3.

Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria, Lake District

This black and white landscape shot was taken at the Castlerigg Stone Circle in Cumbria, near Keswick and Derwentwater. I think that's Helvellyn in the background. It was taken when on Honeymoon last May/June.
